Are dogs allowed on any of the beaches in the MB area? We hope to spend a few hours next Friday at MB and will be taking our dog.

Horry County
Any animal on the beach must be on a hand-held leash not to exceed six feet in length and under the control of the person having custody of the animal. Animals are not allowed on the beach from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 1-Sept. 1.
It is unlawful to ride a horse or other animal on the public beach or within pubic marsh areas within the county limits March 1-Oct. 31.

Myrtle Beach
Dogs in public must be on a leash at all times. No animals are allowed on the beach or Ocean Boulevard from 21st Ave. N. to 13th Ave. S. in Myrtle Beach during any time of the year. No dogs are allowed on the beach 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 15-Sept. 15.
Horses and riders are allowed on the beach within the city of Myrtle Beach from the third Saturday in November until the end of February, in groups of six or fewer. No "staging" is allowed within the city limits (access to the beach is through Myrtle Beach State Park), and riders must clean up droppings west of the high tide line.
North Myrtle Beach
Dogs in public must be on a leash at all times. No dogs are allowed on the beach from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 15-Sept. 15.
Surfside Beach
Dogs are not allowed on the beach at any time May 15-Sept. 15. Riding horses on the beach is prohibited.
Georgetown County
Horses are not allowed on the beach March 15-Sept. 15. Riding horses on Pawleys Island or Huntington Beach State Park is prohibited year round.
Dogs are allowed on public beaches if accompanied by the owner or keeper and under the physical control by means of a leash or similar restraining device, or under the control of a responsible person to whom the dog is obedient on command. On Pawleys Island beach, dogs must be on a leash May-October. At Huntington Beach State Park, dogs must be on a leash at all times. In areas designated for the protection of endangered species, dogs and cats must be on a leash at all times.

We love taking our dog on walks at Surfside beaches.........Everyone does.
The summers have certain rules and hours.
You should be fine for this time of year. Note the area where none are allowed.......
But, it is a very pet friendly area. Its nice seeing everyone enjoy their beach walks with their pets along.

It's just recently been brought to the attention of town council that SC state laws require that all dogs be leashed any time they are off of owner's property. Municipal regs can be more restrictive but not more lenient. PI's attorney is reviewing the status of this issue, but it's likely PI will need to comply unless the state law is amended in some way.

Simon is usually on a leash except when he is at our local dog beach, where it is not required. If dogs go into the water, does the dog have to be on a leash? I can't imagine that the 6 foot leash would work in the water.

I don't know the regs but we are in Garden City Beach (beside Surfside) and the lifeguards are very strict on dog ordinances in our area. If it is 9:01 a.m., they kick those of us with dogs off of the beach. However, I see dogs in the water without leashes all of the time. The lifeguards never say anything to owners about that on our strip of beach at least. I've had dogs (not on leashes) run up to me and my dog, who is always on a leash. I think as long as the animals are "under control" and not causing issues, they are lenient on the 6 ft leash thing. You should probably always have a leash with you and use it when you and the dog are just walking on the beach. I think if you take it off while he/she is running into and out of the water, you are probably ok. These are just my observations on Garden City Beach and their enforcement rules. I understand Surfside is much more strict because we have folks from Surfside coming over to Garden City with their pets.

Myrtle Beach
 • Barc Parc. Dog Park with large lake and lots of shade and a few picnic tables. Location: Inside Seagate Village in the old Air Force Base. Directions: Go south on Kings Hwy (Business 17) leaving Myrtle Beach towards Surfside. Turn left into the Seagate Village Community across from the Myrtle Beach State Park and in the old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.
This is the cutest dog park. It has a large dog side and a small dog side.......The dogs seem to have such a fun time there. Turn at Seagate Village.......Enjoy!

Thanks Summering. If we get there on Friday, this might just be the place. I want to check out the State Park and see what is at the old AFB. Haven't been there in years.

We are going to be traveling to Surfside Beach next weekend and we wanted to bring our dog. It will not be fun to bring her though and leave her inside the hotel from 9-5! Is there anywhere like a dog beach that they are allowed to be? These rules seem pretty strict and not fun for those of us with four legged buddies!
