I am moving across state from California, pending on a new constructed home. How is the weather overall and what about the hurricanes seasons.

Summers are hot and very humid from middle of May to early September. Oct-most of Dec and March/April are very pleasant...temps in the 70's/80s with low humidity. Jan/Feb on the cool side...average high 50's during the day. Unless they work outside, most people stay inside during the summers and enjoy the outdoors the rest of the year.

Hurricane season lasts from June-Nov but realistically most hurricanes are in the fall. We get one every few years (usually cat 1 or 2. Some people just hunker down for the weaker hurricanes...others just go on vacation inland for a few days until it passes. You always have plenty of warning that it may hit the area. Hopefully you checked the flood maps for the house you're building. Lately, flooding has been more and issue than winds with hurricanes.

We are hot and humid most of the year. We get a nice break in the winter. Lawn and home upkeep is pretty much year-round, except you might not have to mow in the middle of winter. Be sure to keep on top of the mold on the north side of your home and trim your palmettos twice a year.

Hurricane seasons are difficult to predict. Like the previous poster said, most people stay home unless there is a declared emergency or the local power/water is shut down for safety reasons. Be familiar with what flood zone your property is in. The fastest way to find it is to look up your lot/neighborhood on realtor dot com. IF you are in a flood zone, you need flood insurance and I would take precautions like buying a few flood barriers to keep in the garage for your doorways. They sell them on amazon. ALL homes in the area legally must be sold with plywood to fit over your windows in case of a hurricane. Make sure the builder leaves them for you before closing!
