We are a young family with two kids (3yrs old and 5 yrs old) who are moving down south from the North. We are looking for a family friendly town that has conservative values. Good school district would be great otherwise we will do private Christian school. We have been in southwest Florida for the past year and love it but miss family so we are moving to South Carolina as our parents are moving to Myrtle Beach and we want to have some family within driving distance (ideally not much more than 2 hours). I don't think we want to be in Myrtle Beach as I feel the environment is not safe for growing children with the Spring Breakers and Festivals that occur (perhaps north Myrtle Beach is different?). We were thinking outside surrounding areas of Myrtle Beach and Charleston. We had planned on checking out Conway, Summerville, Sumter, Orangeburg, Georgetown, Goose Creek, Florence, Monks Corner..
Love the idea of being close to the water (which I am aware these towns are not) but not sure that's within our budget trying to stay <625k.
We are doing a road trip for a few days at the end of the month to meet with realtors and explore towns but were hoping to have a more concrete list of places we want to check out so any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

You should be able to find a house easily within your budget near the beech cities, like Myrtle Beach. Just use Zillow for the area and see.
IMO unless you are in the city of MB, Atlantic Beach or near the Beaver Bar, etc in Murrells Inlet, the biker festivals are pretty much non-events other than traffic. You can easily avoid all of the "environment" that is not safe for growing children by just knowing where NOT to be during those weeks.
We live in Murrells Inlet and there are multiple communities that would fit within your budget and are far from "the maddening crowd." Unless we choose to go to the beach or into the tourist areas, you wouldn't even know that it's tourist season. There certainly are areas that, in order to stay away from the traffic and craziness of tourist season, one would want to avoid, but there are many other areas that would meet your needs with good schools, nice neighborhoods, etc without going out to Conway. Conway is certainly a nice town but your proximity to the beaches is limited due to summer traffic and, depending on where in Conway you live, traffic within the town of Conway can be an issue as well.
When we were contemplating our move to SC, we also looked at Summerville which we found delightful. However, a trip to the beach would take over an hour with traffic and we didn't want to be that far away. Traffic around Charleston is much worse than MB. We also considered Monks Corner and Goose Creek but were concerned with the paper factory and other industries which can put out pretty awful odors (not all the time though). Parts of Georgetown are very nice but they also have a paper factory which puts out odors as well. We have visited Florence for the Pecan Festival but I don't think it's a place that I'd want to live.
If you need a reference for an agent in the MB area (including MI, Conway, etc), PM me and I'll give you the name of a good agent that we've used multiple times. (I'm not an agent so don't worry...I'm not going to give you my name as a reference....LOL.)
Thank you for the feedback. Murrells Inlet looks beautiful! Thank you very much for the insight about these paper factories I had no idea and will look more into this!
Florence was one that we are contemplating crossing off the list after further googling as I am not sure it is the right fit for us....
Not sure if you're still looking, but Conway is a nice choice. Also the Carolina Forest or Market Common area of MB. Stay away from Loris, Florence, and Little River.
Maybe you should stay away from Little River . We have lived here for 2+ years and never met anyone who doesn't like it here . Do you live here ? I'll bet NO
I moved to SC from NC about 5 years ago. I don't have small children, mine are grown. Just look up the crime statistics for the area. Crime has really grown, shootings, burglaries, and lots of homeless people. I drove Uber and what I saw was shocking. Oh and car insurance rates were double, many traffic accidents here. And bugs, critters, humidity...I hate to be negative, just make sure this is the place for your family.
Good luck!
