I haven't been to Myrtle Beach in a number of years, although I visited a number of times, between 1980 and 2001. One thing I noticed, and somewhat questioned, about Broadway At The Beach, was that many of the "stores" would have their entry doors wide open, but the air conditioning going "full tilt", even in 90* weather. Each building had an A/C unit that was about the size of a compact car.
I couldn't understand why they did this, as well as how they could afford to do it. Given the current hub-bub over global warming and energy consumption, etc, do they still do this?
I haven't been up there since last summer, but it was still common practice then. I can only speculate, but I know when walking around there on a hot and humid day, when you passed one of those open doors with a cool breeze blowing out, it was mighty enticing to step inside to browse a little. IMO, it's the same game, just a little more sophisticated, as staging a barker out front handing out discount coupons. For most of those shop owners, I doubt that climate change is their primary worry.

I understand what you're saying, and yeah, I agree, they don't seem to worry about climate change OR cost of operation. Thanks for the response!
Leadfoot - not much to tell you about BATB . Got there around 5:30 for dinner . The temperature was 64 and every front door of every business was open . No need for A/C last night . BATB is the least of this world’s problems .

While that may be true, I find it kind of frustrating that the "green weenies" want to force everyone into EVs, because they think it will solve the world's pollution problems. But a blatant waste of energy, like many of BATB's businesses having the a/c blasting, and their doors wide open, on a 90* day, 3-4 months a year, year after year, goes unnoticed............
How many “green weenies” do you think are in MB ? MB is all about money , period . Up here in NMB , it’s all about when Happy Hour starts . Exactly where we are heading in about 15 minutes . Have a good weekend !

I was talking about "green weenies" as an entire group, not necessarily the ones that may reside in Myrtle Beach......and yes, the vibe is (or used to be, anyway) quite relaxed in NMB.
