Hi,
Great info on this forum.
We are retiring this year and spending a month in March to look for a house around the Murrells Inlet or North Myrtle Beach areas. And yes we may rent first.
Because we will be new and want to meet people, is it advisable to find a development with a "community center" with activities or have you folks found other easy ways to meet people.
You want to look at newer neighborhoods that are not built out yet . We bought when this neighborhood was only about 1/3 sold and is mostly populated by people from PA , NJ and NY , like us . Very easy to make friends and be involved in the activities here .

Would you share what developments you like?
When you say activities, are you saying in your development, that has a clubhouse, or in general you find alot of ways to meet people.?
Maybe you can tell I'm nervous about making new friends, lol.
Glad to see alot of Yankees down there!
For activities, basically just doing fun stuff with people: golf (hubby, not me), pickle ball, sewing, eating, wine clubs, walking, dancing........ I found in NJ I met people when my kids were growing up, but now we'll be newbies!
So if a development doesn't have a clubhouse of some sort, wondering if it is easy to meet people.
Thanks, so glad I found this forum, such good conversations.
Don't know what you budget is, but if you are interested in a community that's been around awhile and doesn't have that "clear cut" look, check out the Blackmoor community. It has a clubhouse, tennis/pickeball courts, pool and a very active activities calendar. We've found it to be a very friendly community.
