Hi there. We are planning our move to Horry County (MB area) and will be down there the last week of June to hopefully secure an apartment for us to move by August. We have looked on Zillow and it's a great start if you're house hunting but not so much for renting as it's not reliable and not everything is listed on there. We have also tried apartments.com and that seems to be Ok but my question is .. are there any other sites or ways to apartment hunt/secure? Do any local realtors help with finding/securing an apartment?
side note: we have been coming to the area for 10 years and we love it. We also have family in SC but we prefer to live close to the beach as we are getting older and this will be our last time moving. We have jobs and are financially secure but want to rent for the first 6months-1year to get more of a living there feeling and don't want to house jump right away. Just putting this out there so hopefully we don't get lumped in with the million other "want to relocate" posts
We recently went through an apartment search in prep for moving from the house we sold here in MB. We were concerned that we would not find another house quickly so we prepared to move to an apartment. Based on our needs, we found The Lively in MarketCommons the best value for the money. They weren't the cheapest (nor the most expensive) but we found their apartments nice, clean and bright. Most of the other places we looked were older, dingy/dark even though they were clean. Also, don't count on finding anything nice with less than 7-9 month leases.
Fortunately, we were able to find a house in this crazy market and ended up not needing an apartment.
Other places to look are realtor.com, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist but they all tend to repeat themselves as most rental places post in multiple sites. There is no single place to look for a list of all rentals. Local realtors sometimes have a list of rentals but they tend to be only those for which their agency is acting as property managers. You could search under property managers and try that route but most property managers are handling houses, townhomes or condos.
Good luck with your search. It's a very hot market right now both for home sales and rentals. If you find what you want, don't hesitate or it probably will be gone.
I also recommend Market Common. I do not live there. We live in a 55+ community called, Myrtle Trace SOUTH near the University, Conway Med, and Walmart. We own a home. We love it here and don't plan on moving for a very very long time.
No incentive $$ for Realtors here to help you find a rental, and they are doing well with sales and listings here, so you are on your own.
I wasn't asking for a realtor to help for free, figured a fee would be included and home sales are doing great everywhere, which is why we choose now to sell and move. But thanks for the reply
Thanks everyone. We have a few sites that we have found but like it was mentioned by someone, they pretty much list same things. We were in contact with a lady at Latitude at Commons and she also said apartments go quick! Guess we will just see what we can find and cross our fingers we pick something decent ... it's only temporary so not stressing.
