Can any long term residents tell us what expect during the coming bike weeks? We stay in the South MB area, go to the beach, local restaurants. Any places to avoid or expect crowds? TIA
Since the Spring Rally didn't happen until July, I'm not sure anybody knows what to expect from the Fall Rally, as far as crowds are concerned. If, by chance, it's similar to past years, generally the Fall Rally is pretty much a low key event compared to the Spring Rally. The restaurants and bars in Murrells Inlet will be busy, with lots of slow traffic. The H-D dealership is located close to MB State Park, so that area will also be busy. Overall, motorcycle traffic issues are typically late afternoon and during the evening hours.
Based on the July Rally, don't expect to see any masks, social distancing or enforcement of covid restrictions.
We rarely go into MB for dinner, so any of our favorites will require some travel. Sea Captain’s House is an exception. We go there occasionally, partly because we like their food and atmosphere, and partly a nostalgia thing, having eaten there for a zillion years. We like Russell’s and Hot Fish Club in Murrells Inlet, but if you’re checking for Bike Week, I recommend avoiding the area unless you’re bikers, and saving them for another time. River Room in Georgetown is on our short list of favorites. Overlooking the river, it has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, but the food is top-shelf good and very fresh. Thomas Cafe is an iconic diner serving breakfast and lunch. It’s usually stuffed with locals, many from the nearby courthouse, but their gumbo and fried green tomatoes are excellent and worth waiting for. Ball & Cue is a meat & 3 kind of place that has been in business forever. Their fried chicken is as good as it gets.
Pawleys Island offers a variety, depending upon your budget. On the fine dining end (rare for us), we prefer Bistro 217, but Frank’s and Chive Blossom are also very popular. Stepping down in price, Hanser House is a family-run, family atmosphere serving very good food. Quigley’s is casual, eclectic and very popular with locals. They have an active bar scene and the best wings in town.
Some other restaurant recommendations (depending on how far you want to drive):
South end of the Strand: Conch Cafe (on the ocean), River City (burgers), Crepe Creation (Market Common), Travinia's (Market Common), Malibu of Surfside (Italian), California Dreaming.
Myrtle Beach: Art Burger and Sushi, Angelos Steak and Pasta, Flamingo's
If you don't mind driving a bit and see a different town (Conway): Bonfire (ribs), Crafty Rooster (IPA bar/decent food), Crooked Oak

Where does bike week normally occur?
Myrtle to North Myrtle?
Does if affect Murrells Inlet?

Pre-Covid, there are/were usually two Harley-Davidson Bike Weeks, the big one in early May and a smaller, quieter one in September. Both are generally centered around the Myrtle Beach HD dealership, which is located near MB State Park and Market Commons. Their presence can be seen to some degree throughout the area. These rallies have a significant impact to Murrells Inlet. There are several biker bars in MI, and some of the restaurants - Russell's, Dead Dog Saloon, etc - are biker favorites. The rallies are also a significant boost to the local economy. As the time gets closer, https://www.myrtlebeachbikeweek.com/ is a good place to check for dates. Depending upon the Covid situation by that time, the dates may very well change.
Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, aka Black Bike Week, is usually centered around Memorial Day weekend. It's impact is most present in North Myrtle Beach, but once again can be seen to some degree throughout the area. Generally speaking, it has significantly less effect on Murrells Inlet.
