Trying to get a good idea of general living expenses in MB and I have a few questions. Any input on any of these would be appreciated: how much do you pay monthly for public water/sewer expenses in most developments? Does your homeowner insurance include fire protection/EMS services or are these billed by Horry county separately? What is HO6 insurance and does every homeowner need this? How much is it to register a car in SC and is this yearly or every two years? What is yearly "personal property taxes" and on what do you get taxed--vehicles? home furnishings? home? Are there any other monthly expense line items I should figure into my proposed living expenses budget I may not be aware of coming from upstate NY (like mandated/guaranteed expenses we would never generally have here)? TIA

Much depends on if you live in MB proper or in unincorporated Horry County.
I live in MB and play about $50 month for water and sewer and trash, since I live in the city fire/ems is covered by my property taxes. The development I live in covers water for landscaping.
You pay personal property tax on your vehicles annually - home furnishings are not taxed unless you rent out your home, if you do you will also need a business license in MB
Property taxes are paid annually - seniors can qualify for discounts
If you live in a development you will have monthly HOA fees - some cover trash pickup outside the city, some don't
HO6 Insurance is for condos
Separate flood insurance is recommended for most areas and may be mandatory by your lender
You won't have snow removal charges but you may have pest control expenses

Well I just did all the running around to get my license/registration/tag last week.
2010 Dodge Ram. Total cost was just under $500 cause everyone I went to wanted a check for one thing or another.
This is for Horry county if that matters.

And I just applied for residency with the county in order for my prop taxes to be low..August 1 deadline to file.

Car insurance seems higher here than where I came from (Texas).
Went from a house to a condo so of course my insurance will be lower.

I don't really have a budget yet because I'm still paying all these one off "just moved here" types of fees/bills and getting settled in an established.

Car insurance IS more expensive....tourists drive like maniacs, because they don't know where they're going.....it can be a madhouse on the roads at times!

Our Condo HOA covers water/sewer, trash, cable/phone/internet (basic levels).

Am in a community called, "Myrtle Trace South" just about .5 miles from Walmart or the Conway Medical Center. It's a plus 55 community. We've been here for a year and a half now. W love it here. Everything is cheaper here except for water and car insurance. But I bet EVERYTHING is cheaper than NYS. I am originally from Albany NY. Can't get away from the traffic though. People complain about it all the time. I don't! I came from the DC Metro area before heading to SC. That's traffic up there! Around the beltway and south on I95.
