Depends on who you talk to. I've had no problem finding all of these. Other people will tell you that they can't find anyone taking new patients. I can't explain the difference....LOL.
I had trouble finding a primary care with good reviews. I went to one doc, and the next month she mailed patients letters she was moving out of state. I then called a lot who were not accepring patients. I asked two friends, and they said they hadn’t found one. I finally found one, and I walked in my first visit, and he’s in his 70s. He’s great though so I’ll stick with him and hope he doesn’t retire soon.
I immediately found the doctor that I wanted at Carolina Health in MB, was given an appointment in 2 weeks. I had to wait 4-6 weeks to see a dermatologist, because I was a new patient. I got an appointment as a new patient with an Ophthalmologist in one week.
Make sure you check into their credentials. South Carolina does not require doctors to be board certified. I wouldn't go to the Dr there while we lived there and we ended up moving because lack of quality medical care. However we have friends that have found wonderful doctors there. Its very hard to find them that's for sure
No state requires board certification, but all doctors must pass a licensure exam in order to be able to practice medicine. Hospitals often require doctors to be board certified in their specialty, in fact I can't think of any hospitals that don't require it, but there are some.
Carolina Health Specialists in Socastee has a doctor starting in September who will be accepting new patients. It's true that a lot of the experienced, established and excellent doctors are no longer taking new patients, but there are many who are.
I've been a critical care nurse for over 40 years in many different states - the very best cardiologist I've ever met is here in the MB area and he is taking new patients.
Update - currently to see a primary doctor as a new patient, there is a 3 month wait. I called Carolina Health in MB and Sayebrook medical. So when you move here, find a doctor first thing. I'm not surprised at the wait with all the building that is going on here, it seems like thousands of new homes are planned for.
