We moved to MB 7 months ago and have a contract with a pest control company. But it will soon be time to get termite protection for our new home since the first year of treatment is almost up. There are several pest companies that do termite control so I need some advice on which company to choose. Some companies use bait traps and others dig a trench around the slab and soak the soil with a liquid. The soil under our slab was not treated prior to the build, but the framing was. There is no evidence of a problem, but now, almost a year later, we need to either renew with the same company or hire someone else to do the treatment. Am wondering about the warranty or the guarantee on termite treatment. Have sooooo much to learn. Any advice is appreciated.

Is the house you move into a new house? If so, most termite companies that treated the house when it was built will renew each year for a minimal amount ($130 or so). That keeps your warranty in place and they do another surface treatment at renewal. If that's your situation, that will be the best option because if you go to a new company, they are going to want to treat the entire house including drilling holes into any exterior slab that contacts the rest of the house. The cost for this runs $700+ and then you'll need to renew each year for the $130. So, it's definitely better to stay with your current pest control company for the first 5 years.

After 5 years, even the original company will require that they retreat the house just like a new company would do.

Thank you CT Yankee, what you recommended makes a lot of sense.
