We will be visiting both cities the third week of August to get more familiar with the various neighborhoods. I've actually house hunted in Myrtle Beach before, but I've never been to Columbia. My son will be a sophomore this year and is in special education for autism, so I'm curious about the schools. I take everything on greatschools with a grain of salt as a former teacher, but was rather shocked to see the high rate of suspensions for special education students... Hope that's just an error in the data.

Horry County schools tend to rate highly, but high ratings don't always equate with a good special education department.

North Myrtle is a possibility, as well.

Any insights you can give me on specific neighborhoods and schools would be much appreciated!

Horry County schools are rated very well but also, Waccamaw High School in Pawleys island (Georgetown County) is also a very good school, a little smaller than high schools in Horry County. There are several good neighborhoods in the Pawleys Island area as well as in the Murrells Inlet area. Of course, not knowing your price range, it would be hard for me to point out any specific neighborhoods without having your criteria. I would be more than happy to help in any way either by emailing you info regarding neighborhoods as well as property listings within your criteria. Please do not hesitate to contact me!
