Going to visit for the first time the first week of December with my girlfriend and child. Never been down there late in the season, How is the weather? what are some activities we can do together? Anything I need to know for being a newbie?
Myrtle in December will feel like a ghost town. If you're used to visiting in the summer then you'll be surprised how quiet it is in winter. Weather can be a mixed bag. High temperatures can range anywhere from 45 to 75, with an average of about 60 (of course cooler at night). In December you'll be able to walk the beach but won't be able to go swimming. There's still plenty of shopping at Tanger Outlets, Brookgreen Gardens, concerts at House of Blues, shows at Alabama Theater, casino boats in Little River, miniature golf, walk around Broadway at the Beach, dine at nice restaurants.
Whether you swim in the ocean or not will depend on where you're from...I've seen Canadians in the ocean in January!!! LOL
Leetchy2 is right, though. There's plenty to do depending on your tastes. I don't know if Brookgreen Gardens Night of a Thousand Candles will be up and running when you get here, but don't miss it if it is.
I missed it the first time, but since you're bringing a child you all would probably like the attractions at Broadway at the Beach. Kids would like Ripley's Aquarium, the mirror maze, Grand Prix (where there's go-kart tracks, rock climbing, indoor arcade), a Wonderworks museum, and a couple of state-of-the-art movie theaters. You can also feed the ducks & fish. If you go to downtown Myrtle on Ocean Drive there's a boardwalk with a Ferris wheel, arcade games, ice cream shops, etc. Of course kids usually like mini-golf and there's a bunch of those all over. If you're really adventurous there are helicopter tour rides in Myrtle at the east end of the airport just off 17-business.

And they can be seen chilling in the saunas! One winter it was 75 on the beach around Christmas. Another winter it snowed. Ya just never know.
