Considering the following parameters, are you using A/C 24*7 365 days a year with doors and windows shut?

In that case, what do you think is a set constant temperature that would ensure the efficient/most economical use of electricity and the A/C system?

Everyone has different tolerances for the amount of heat/humidity the can take. We keep our a/c on 77-78 most of the time and are comfortable. But we have friends who keep theirs at 70...we freeze when we visit them!! We generally have to run the a/c beginning in late April or early May but not constantly during those months. In late May, we generally run in 24/7 unless we get a nice day (like we did last week) until mid Sept or so. Then it begins to cool off and we'll run it some days...some days not. Some days we run it during the day but it cools off at night and we don't run it.

You definitely don't need a/c in the winter...you'll need HEAT!!!!

77-78??Remind me not to come over for dinner. :P

We're like your friends, and keep our house at a chilly 70-72. I like a cool house.

Winter time the heat will be dropped into the mid 60's.

A cold house is a happy house.

While we just purchase and are only there for a week at a time, we typically have our A/C at 76-77 when we are in the house and we find it comfortable. Obviously, if you had guests, etc it may need to be lowered a bit but for just the two of us we find it to be fine and we live in NY the rest of the year.

Everyone is different though.

of course it is not 24/7 365, and that is based on the data YOU provided. I like 77 or 76 for the a/c and 67 or so for the heater. a/c is at least 6 full months.

Considering, I will leave the house unattended until middle of January, the issue I am concerned with is the mold/moisture related problems due to humidity.

I am wondering what would be the optimum temperature that needs to be set (with windows/doors closed and the A/Cs or heat running 24*7) to prevent mold due to humidity and at the same time it does not cost me fortune in the electric bill

I mean the A/C running until the cold season starts.... and heat running once the cold season starts.....

In this scenario, what could be the ideal temperature set for A/C (until cold season) and what could be the ideal temperature set for Heat (after the cold season)

Another question is when (set date) does the cold season starts so that I can have a friend start the heat and set an optimum temperature? would that date be Nov 1 or Oct 15 or Dec 1 or Dec 15?

I think you can leave it at 79-80. IIRC it takes over 80 degrees to worry about mold. Though, I might be wrong.

Only my opinion but mold is not generally a problem down here in relation to the relative humidity averages or moisture. Extended neglect of a property may create the problem but its not a thing where after a couple months and you return to a big mold problem.
