Last year I came down from Maryland and passed through on the way (probably about an 15-30 min before MB, but I can't remember) a town that seemed to be struggling and had a lot of abandoned storefronts & gritty looking buildings. I have been looking at Google maps for an hour and can't find where this was. I do remember it was more of a rural area but looked like it had been at one point set up to try and attract tourists (storefronts with beach chairs in the windows, etc) Any help is greatly appreciated, I am a photographer who enjoys this type of thing. I typically would like to photograph small towns with old buildings in disrepair.

15-30 minutes before MB would be Conway........ There are several small towns we pass through driving from NJ to MB that sound more like what you are talking about. But they are more like 45 minutes or more before the Myrtle Beach area.....
Sounds like he is coming in on 501...which would place him around Anynor/Conway area or possibly Marion but I think that is a little longer out and I know that once you leave the Coastal Carolina University area on 501.....things look a bit grimmer but it has looked that way since I was little coming in on 501 for vacation...sad that was 25 years ago...not much has really changed......yikes............
