I was wondering if anyone knew anything about either Brightwater or Eagle Crest independent living facilities? Both are located in MB and I am looking to move my parents to one of them. I am going to drive down to check them both out in a couple of weeks. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know. I called both and did some online research, but there's nothing like firsthand knowledge.

Thanks!

When my parents (80 years old) were considering moving down, I visited both facilities. Brightwater, in my opinion, is much nicer. It has standalone housing for folks who are not ready to move into completely assisted living situations. In the standalone housing, the staff cleans house for the residents once a week and does laundry. They do all the repairs, mow the grass, etc. and if someone has something stored in the attic, the staff will come and retrieve it for them. Then, as people age, they can move into a more assisted living situation...more like a condo and then they have an Alzheimers wing as well. From what I observed it's very well run by very friendly people.

Eagle Crest was not a bad place...just not on par with Brightwater based on my observations.

My parents ended up building a house nearby to us. Actually, the folks at Brightwater advised my parents that they didn't think they were ready for Brightwater as they were still healthy and able to get around well. They suggested that they buy/build/rent a house and then come back and see them when they had the need for more services.

Thanks for replying. My parents are turning 88 and 90 next month and can't live alone. They currently live in an independent living facility in FL so I am looking for something similar. I am definately moving them up there, but they need a facility. Eventually, I can see my mom needing assisted living more, but she would prefer independent living and hiring someone to occasionally help her. Things will change dramatically when one of them leaves this earth. Having them situated in a place will make that time of their lives so much easier for them.

There seem to be positives to both places and negatives with both places. I don't think there are any other places in the area.

Again, thanks.

There is at least on other: Garden Manor Village SC: 100 Garden Manor Court Murrells Inlet I visited there...definitely not as nice as the other two but is a good bit less expensive. It depends on how much assistance is needed. If they are pretty independent and just need a little help, Garden Manor might work.

There are a bunch of assisted living facilities and I've visited many of them. Do a general Google search for assisted living facilities myrtle beach and you'll get a list...Reflections, Myrtle Beach Manor, Myrtle Beach Estates, etc etc. They are quite different from independent living facilities though so it depends on what you're looking for.

If you have the time, schedule time with several of them...they're more than happy to give you a tour etc. and some will even feed you while you're there!!!! But, of them all, Brightwater is the nicest based on what I observed.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you CtYankee. Although they are 88 and 90 they don't need any assistance at this time. I can see my mom eventually needing more help though. I did already schedule a visit with both places. I also called the referral service "A place for mom" and they said the others are all really assisted living. Thankfully they both have 100% of their mental capabilities.
