My family and I want to relocate from Lexington to Myrtle Beach. We'd like to know how the economy is there-if jobs are plentiful. I'd also love some information on finding Section 8 housing in MB. Does anyone know of any links I may use? I'd appreciate any info on life in MB-thanks!

In another post I read just a couple of minutes ago you said:

"We moved here from NJ...a place with high taxes, but also ample programs to help the poor, like heating assistance, electric assistance, etc.
SC offers pretty much zilch. If I had done my homework and found that out beforehand, we would never have moved here.
Our state motto should be "Welcome to South Carolina:Sink or Swim".
Unless someone is coming here to retire and has a good nest egg, I'd tell them DON'T move to SC. Especially if you are low-income.
My vote is for NC."

Am I missing something here?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Section 8 takes about 3 years. There is no heating assistance, etc. Like you said in your other post, SC offers nothing (well, other than food stamps and Medicaid.)

Jobs are not plentiful, and since we're a tourist area, they run from March/April to Sept/Oct. Then of course, Nov/Dec for the holidays.

No, you're not missing something. We're missing something (money) to move back to NJ. Very expensive, unfortunately.
We've decided to stick it out in SC for one more year, but not in nowhere-land Lexington. We're moving to Myrtle Beach where there's some action, at least. I'm happy to say I've found a very nice house in a great neighborhood about 2 miles from the beach. We love it.
If things don't work out, THEN we'll head back to Jersey.

There is section 8 and many people accept it even beachside homes or apt. I believe u can sign up in conway or if you already have it u can transfer it, my friend did and she lives in surfside on glens bay rd and the condos are southbay and they accept it and the condos are huge. many jobs are under the table here to. They have foodstamps in holmstown rd in surfside also welfare office in conway and they have helping hands in myrtle beach and surfside. I am from ohio and I know up there you get much more assistance heap for heating and all kinds of other stuff. I love it here, it is my "GARDEN OF EDAN" creekrat48

How exactly are people on Sec 8 able to afford to move? My husband and I work well paying, full time jobs and still had to tighten our belts to relocate. The security deposits/first/last months rent, moving truck, etc. Just wondering if I'm missing something?

I was wondering the same thing! When we relocated to AZ from MI a few years back, it cost us around four thousand dollars, and that was with using one U-Haul truck and another company for the big stuff that basically had us pack the trailer then they pick it up with their tractor and hauled it to AZ and we unpacked it there, just to save money. Using a regular moving company would have cost almost twice as much.

Well, I guess when you're on Section 8 all of your housing costs are paid for by the taxpayers, so maybe if you can find someone to move your stuff inexpensively you could afford it. I know people can get down on their luck, but it seems that moving to the beach should be the last thing you are thinking about if you are trying to improve your lot in life and get off of Section 8, unless you plan to be on it for the rest of your life and just don't care.

Keep working hard so others don't have to, welcome to America lol It cost me right around $5K to move coast to coast and that was with one moving truck I packed myself and a car trailer.......then another $3500 to get into a house. I have no clue how that would be possible without a good job??? or saving a lot, but if you can save money you should not be getting government assistance no?
