For a long time, Pawleys Island has happily stayed in the shadow of Myrtle Beach's glitz and glamour, remaining a preferred vacation spot for many who were perfectly content to keep it their little secret. Those days may be in jeopardy. National Geographic just released their "Top !0 Best International Summer Trips" , with Pawleys at the top of the list.
Should be interesting to see how it impacts rental rates. And yeah, for those with a good eye for detail, the aerial photo is Litchfield beach, not PI.
Yeah, I think the end is in sight. Sad. Of course, a lot of people want a luxury hotel suite with full maid and room service when they go on vacation. So, I'm sure that staying in a beach "cottage" isn't going to appeal to everyone.
This is the same National Geographic that named the Myrtle Beach the #3 Boardwalk, it should never have made the list, it is nothing more than a walkway along the beach, it is not what folks think of as a Boardwalk. And is that a picture of Pawley's or someplace else?
Hey Gary - Yeah, as I pointed out in the OP, it's a very nice photo of Litchfield Beach. I always wonder how any of these lists come up with their selections. Of course, right now it doesn't matter whether they're right or wrong, simply that PI made the list and got the publicity. I haven't talked with anybody who works at the rental companies, but I know a couple VRBO'ers who are wetting all over themselves trying to figure out how much they can raise rates. 'Course, they may be a tad bit early in their excitement.
I don't think Pawleys has too much to worry about. When I worked at Litchfield Plantation (we had an oceanfront beachhouse as one of our amenities), about half of our guests were from Europe.
