Probably would never happen. Florida has tons of man-made inlets and I won't pretend to understand the feasibility and economics of building one in Myrtle Beach, but it would be cool to have one instead of the closest being in Little River and Georgetown.
Short term, as in for a time period of under 10 years, it could potentially be a good idea. New businesses would sprout up along the newly formed inlet and it would become a tourist/boating attraction.
Long term they would exacerbate beach erosion. Beach erosion is always the most significant along the inlets, and is probably why the Grand Strand is so stable as a beach in general. There are a few inlets already. One at Georgetown, the North Inlet, another at Pawleys, another between Litchfield and Pawleys, Murrells Inlet, technically one in Cherry Grove, and one up in Little River.
