hello all
I have decided to move to myrtle beach and will be headed down that way later this month Feb 22-25th range.

My issue is mostly housing related
I'm looking for something in the roughly $500-600 monthly rent range.
all inclusive utility's a plus but not required
no preference to furnished or unfurnished
Kitchen with full sized refrigerator (a mini fridge just isnt enough)
and also that will accept two well behaved indoor cats.
location is also kind of important as I am traveling from a larger city and am sans car currently.

I found a few complexes in the area Monticello park being pretty high on the list, partly price partly the location, seems good. According to Google maps at least I am not very familer with the area. but all the complexes in my preferred range an location have very bad reviews. I know I cant ask for much out of this price range but I also don't want to be putting down deposits and signing leases for a place I will be miserable at.

Iv also found a few month to month rentals by individuals in my price range but am worried about being ripped off or that around June-July they may decide to double prices and I am out on the street.

So if any of you happen to know a decent affordable apartment complex near myrtle beach or an individual you consider trustworthy that may have something suiting my needs I would greatly appreciate the help.

also appreciate any other tips tricks or info that I may need to know about the ins and outs of my very near future home town.

thank you for your time

Monticello Park is in a very bad part of Myrtle Beach...lots of shootings, break-ins, assaults, etc. I would advise not renting anything in the Greens Blvd area of MB (which is where Monticello Park is located).

There are other, more desirable, places you can rent but your lack of vehicle is going to limit your selection. For example, Palmetto Point Apartments can be rented for around $600 but they are located on the south end of MB. Where are you going to be working? That would help with apartment suggestions.

Central Myrtle area so I am trying to find a place that would be within at most 45min walking distance to where Google maps has marked as Myrtle Beach.

What I found with one of the apartments ( in the southend) is that they raise up the rent with little regard to you. Plus you might need two months rent to move in, one for security.
One place wanted 100 per pet, which wasn't mentioned until move in. It was thought to be a hundred inclusive.
So be careful what you sign and be aware of extra expenses. Walking a long walk when it is running 100 degrees might persuade you to purchase a bike.

ok so its almost certain I will be moving down there in a few days hopefully housing will iron itself out soon fingers crossed. so my final question is once I get down there I would love to treat myself to something fun but after all the set up I doubt ill have much cash. I was wondering what you all do nothing super touristy or high class just a nice place with a low bill anything from food to scenery. just a little something to say you made it here an its gonna be freaking awsome. thanks for all the help.

We have some friends coming down in April and had started a list for them. Here a few suggestions we have on the list.

A Few Things to Enjoy in Myrtle Beach

Boardwalk: Take time to stroll up & down the Boardwalk in the heart of MB and end having a drink in the open air bar on the top deck of the 2nd Avenue Pier Bar (can buy appetizers up on the 3rd level or have a full meal on the restaurant on the 2nd floor.) Or at the other end of the boardwalk, have a drink/bite to eat at the 14th Avenue pier. Or you’ll find lots of other spots up and down the boardwalk, including The Bowery (check hours) where the country music group “Alabama” performed regularly before hitting the big time. City of Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk
Second Avenue Pier, Myrtle Beach, SC - Fishing, Food & Family Fun

MB Skywheel: It glides so smoothly without rocking, you hardly know you’re moving. Located on the boardwalk at Plylar Park.
Attractions in Myrtle Beach | Boardwalk Myrtle Beach | Myrtle Beach Skywheel

Broadway at the Beach: A shopping, dining and entertainment complex built over a lake filled with catfish. There are many restaurants, an IMAX theatre, Wonderworks, Ripleys Aquarium, Magic Quest, etc. At night, there are several clubs in the Celebrity Square area to kick back and have a drink. The dueling pianos at Crocodile Rocks is a hoot, especially if you sit upstairs and watch the people below getting smashed. It’s also fun to watch the piano players rake in the money.
Myrtle Beach shopping, dining, nightlife, entertainment in one place! Broadway at the Beach

Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach: Another shopping & dining area. Some good restaurants such as Flying Fish, Joe’s Crab Shack, Fire Island Grill and Greg Normans. If you want to laugh & be embarrassed (and you probably will be) then try Dick’s Last Resort which bills itself as the shame of Barefoot Landing. Oh, and they make you wear a dunce cap.
Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach, Shopping, Dining, Entertainment

The Market Common: A unique shopping, dining and residential complex built on part of the old Myrtle Beach Air Force base. It’s great for just walking around & browsing, grabbing an ice cream or some chocolates from Canipes or taking in a movie. Some of our favorite restaurants/bars are: Gordon Biersch (buy a growler to take back to your condo) and Travinia’s Italian Restaurant. For a quick bite, go to Nacho Hippos – where hip happens. (No, I didn’t make that up.) You can also rent segways to roam around.

The Myrtle Beach Market Common

Warbird Park: A small spot which pays tribute to the former presence of the US Air Force. It’s located just down Farrow Parkway from the Market Common. Warbird Park

Live Theatre and/or dinner theatre shows: Quite a few good entertainment venues on the strand. These are NOT pokey amateur shows. The quality of the performers, the technical aspects, and the content of the major shows would rival broadway. We’ve seen “One the Show” at the Alabama Theatre, Legends in Concerts, and Medieval Times. The newest show “Pirates Voyage” is supposedly spectacular but we haven’t seen it.

Local Winery – La Belle Amie Vineyard in North Myrtle Beach: This is a small local vineyard but I personally am not a fan of their wine, but that’s just my preference. Many people love it. However, we love this place because of the festivals they have almost every Saturday because they showcase local/regional bands. It’s a great place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon with a group of friends and listen to some good music. They have a nice gift shop too. During the festivals, you can sample small amounts of their wines for free. At other times, you can pay for a wine sampling. See their calendar of events to check what might be happening while you’re here.

The Marsh Walk in Murrel’s Inlet: Great place to be in the late evening/night and good during the day too. At night, most of the restaurants have live entertainment so you can just stroll on the sidewalk by the marsh and hear them. Almost all the restaurants have open air bars (you can also order food at most) that face the marsh. Just another laid back place to visit. Restaurants: We really like Dead Dog Salon and Drunken Jack’s. (Stay away from Divine’s Fish House – food doesn’t live up to the prices charged. We’ve not eaten there, but we’ve heard the same thing about Bovines.) Murrells Inlet SC Marshwalk Dining Restaurant Entertainment Guide South Carolina Seafood

Hammock Shops at Pawley’s Island: An interesting little spot to walk around & browse, but probably not do much shopping unless you’re really interested in a hand made hammock.
Hammock Shops

Brookgreen Gardens: An interesting year round botanical garden with outdoor art sculpture museum. Tickets are good for 7 days. Brookgreen Gardens Zoo Myrtle Beach South Carolina Attractions National Historic Landmark

Coastal Grand Mall: Well, it’s just a mall, but there are some good restaurants just outside.

The big “M” Casino Boat: Day & Evening Casino Gambling Cruises | Fort Myers Beach, FL | Myrtle Beach, SC - Big M Casino

Conway, SC: If you’d like to see a true black river (yes the water is black), visit Conway and stroll around the River Walk. Two nice, locally owned restaurants in Conway are Chloe’s Cafe near the River Walk and The Crafty Rooster (interesting story on the name and refers to Coastal Carolina University which is in Conway.) Chloe's Cafe - Conway, South Carolina and Crafty Rooster Bar & Grill
Conway is the County Seat of Horry County but has a small town feel. Nice little shops & places to eat in the downtown area.

Dining:
All You Can Eat Seafood Buffets: For the most part, stay away because there are so many other restaurants with much better food. The one exception to this rule is Crabby Mike’s. We ate there with family and were so amazed at the selection and the freshness & quality of the food. Crabby Mikes Seafood - Home

Sea Captains House: Very good seafood with an ocen view Sea Captain's House Restaurant Fine Seafood Dining

Sarah J’s (Garden City Beach): Another very good restaurant. Sara J's - Family Seafood Restaurant

Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse: If you’re a big, Big, BIG eater, then this is the place (fairly expensive). Personally, I could eat and get stuffed on the salad bar alone. They’ve recently opened a sister restaurant, Capriz, with Italian food. Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse | Myrtle Beach, SC Brazilian Steakhouse or Capriz Italian Feast - Myrtle Beach, SC

Mexican: Our absolute favorite: Abuelo’s. Sit in the bar or patio from 4-7 and get some awesome prices on drinks and food. Part of Coastal Grand Mall http://www.abuelos.com/_webapp_1332721/myrtle_beach,_sc

Italian: On the higher price, but for authentic made fresh daily Italian food nothing beats Pane e Vino. Nice story: Mama Anna, her husband Antonio and son Claudio were born and raised in Rome, then came to America and settled in Beckley, WV then came to Myrtle Beach a few years ago. Home Page

Donuts: The Donut Man (South Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach)

Watersports: Just about anything you want to do…parasailing, jetskis, pontoon boats, kayaking, etc.

Zip-line at site of old Pavilion.
