I wonder if you folks realize how helpful these kinds of threads are to us newbies who are looking at MB and
it's environs. We are coming down in July/Aug. with the dual intention to have fun and learn the areas and what
each has to offer. We will also be looking in Murrells Inlet.
Being from New Jersey we are quite familiar with how beach communities change during the Summer months. We
know what to expect but experience also tells us that during April, May - Sept, Oct. we will have our time to enjoy the
ocean and beaches, and boardwalk.
Please continue to inform us about your area via your observations on it as above. Very, very helpful.
We prefer NMB because of the music....tons of fantastically good bands play at Ducks, Moto's (Cherry Grove), Deckerz, Fat Harolds (on special occasions), Captain Archies, and the Thursday night "Music on Main"...we like bands! Always something going on. Even in Little River, there are places with live music...and the concerts at Ocean Isle are only a few miles away.
I would recommend North Myrtle Beach over Myrtle Beach, based on what you described. However, Myrtle Beach is a very large area and there are plenty of communities that would fit your requirements. You'll just have to look around a bit. Have you also considered Surfside Beach, Garden City, Pawleys Island?
Myrtle Beach proper is typically reserved for tourists and maybe some seasonal visitors. Seems like most people that live here are either South (Surfside, Murrells Inlet, etc.) , North (Arcadian Shores, NMB, Little River, etc.) or West (Socastee, Forestbrook, Carolina Forest, etc.) of Myrtle Beach

You are leaving out Pine Lakes, Dunes/Dunes Club, Myrtle Heights (the area between Kings Highway and Oceanfront from 29th Avenue to the Dunes Club), Plantation Pointe, ect. That's all local. Carolina Forest is mostly transplants.
Surfside and Murrells Inlet are not Myrtle Beach.
