I am always trying to find little quiet restaurants that serve great food, especially seafood and fish....that put more emphasis on the food than the advertising. Got any suggestions, we normally stay surfside area but dont mind driving if its worth it......help?
A big second on Russell's. Never thought of it as a hole in the wall, but it's rustic, very casual, very comfortable. It's our go-to place for very good, very fresh seafood without worrying about od'ing on pretentious ambiance.
Another suggestion is to drive down to Front St in Georgetown. Once again, they're not hole in the walls, some are quite upscale, but they're relaxed, comfortable and welcoming, with far smaller crowds. A totally different atmosphere than MB. A couple good ones are River Room and Goat Island Grille.
Russells is good and Russell is an old old friend of mine!
I have to say my favorite for fried shrimp, oysters, and flounder (all local only in season) is Prossers BBQ.
It's a buffet but you'll only find locals and few tourists who have done their research. Fantastic bbq and the best fried chicken and mac and cheese on the planet. Ditto for the collards, butter beans, green beens, cornbread, etc.
