This kind of thing really upsets me. Where do these "people" come from? Turtles no less. One of the most harmless creatures on earth!

This is the kind of thing that makes be glad I chose a HOA community with strick rules.

Well, as far as this example goes, I am more a fan of "natural selection". In other words the beavers need to figure out how not to get their "stuff" bitten off!

Put your money where your mouth is. Instead of buying a new truck or car, going on that fancy vacation, or living in a yuppified hoa type house. You should put the money you would save into a fund to buy some wetlands/timberland that you can use as a wildlife refuge. You can claim the land as agricultural under timber management and pay about 3-5 dollars a year per acre in tax. The land will always appreciate or remain the same in value as time goes by unlike an investment in a house or car. I was just down by a swamp today doing some pt and was amazed by the critter density. As far as your douchebag neighbor hopefully he will reincarnate into a turtle and live in a canal next to an inbred redneck. OUT

What is wrong with shooting turtles?

We do it all the time here outside Columbus.

Turtles can be very destructive & chew up gardens and destroy fish ponds. If you're in an area with a lot of turtles they might be viewed as rodents. That being said, if the guy has restraining orders against him then he might be a bit of nut so it's probably good that you contacted the authorities. It's best just to let them handle it . You never know when some crackpot could go off and start shooting people.

If there has been a disturbance to any wetland area, I would contact DHEC and/or DNR and have them at least check it out. If the offending property owner has altered any platted area that carries a 'wetland' delineation he/she could be in real trouble..

As to the shooting of turtles.. ya just can't fix stupid.

Just be careful that you haven't done anything either. The fines can be substantial.
