When was it last assessed? What advice did your Realtor give? They reassess every five years and if they just did it they might not do it again right away.
Under the current laws, isn't a property now immediately reappraised at the time of sale, normally to the purchase price? I thought the only exceptions were foreclosures, short sales, etc, where the purchase price may be artifically low, and the county may try for a higher fair market value.
If your assessment is based on your actual purchase price, the only way to appeal would be some argument that you overpaid for the property, which would be tough.
If the property is going to be your primary residence, make sure they're using the 4% assessment ratio. Otherwise, the ratio is 6%.
