This is difficult, but at this point in my life I'd go with:
Led Zeppelin
Johnny Cash
The Supremes
The Kinks
David Bowie
I'd need the Zeppelin for the power, Cash for the story telling, Supremes for the instrumental and feminine voices, Kinks for their everyman sound and Bowie for his diversity.
Noooooooo! Just when I've started discovering a huge number of groups I never heard growing up.
The Eagles
Guy Clark/Townes van Zandt/Rodney Crowell
Allman Brothers
The Jubalaires (Black gospel group active between 1935 and 1950. Worth searching for)
Johnny Cash and the Carter Family
If you want to listen to some really good stuff that isn't that well known, check out Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Wanda Jackson
I don't know if a solo vocalist is considered an act or if that refers to a group, but anyway, if I could only listen to five vocalists for the rest of my life, and since the list is limited to five, here is my list.
Andy Williams
Johnny Mathis
Barbra Streisand
Stacy Kent
Frank Sinatra
Beatles
Bon Jovi
The Highwaymen
Moody Blues
Roy Orbison or ABBA
