I just don't get this question, at all. The movie is rated PG13. PG13. Do people not understand these ratings??
Those ratings can mean very little. I've seen movies that were PG-13 that I would let a 4 year old watch. I have seen movies that were rated PG-13 that should of been rated R.
Ratings are very loose and a lot studios lobby for ratings on certain movies.
because he likes Transformers. he's got the lunchbox, toys, coloring books, etc
Thanks for the reply. He will have to settle for the Ice Age or one of those movies for now.
I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but growing up I watched many movies that were not for children when I was a child. It had no adverse affect on me. Many things went over my head until I got older and some things began to make sense.
Some children can handle more adult movies, others can not.
I will say I was surprised that Transformers was a bit more 'adult' than I had anticipated, because it was promoted all over the kiddie channels. My 8 year old saw it and loved it. 8 is different than 4 though. I'm sure the talking parts went over their heads, but watching the bots transform repeatedly certainly held their attention. The language was a bit more jarring than the action though.
All movies are loud for young ears, buy some earplugs for their little ears.
true, maturity levels vary among kids. I was around 10 or 11 when I first saw The Shining (at home and for a while after that was terrified to enter the bathroom if the shower curtains were drawn!). but as a movie goer, I'm not thrilled about being in the same theater w/ a child that is completely freaked out or grossed out by what's on the screen. nothing ruins a good horror movie more than the sound of a small child shrieking and crying out of fear a few seats away. then there was the kid screaming out several times "I CAN SEE HIS PEEPEE!!" during that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall when I first saw it in theaters (cute the first time he screamed it, annoying as hell after he screamed it about 4 more times). if you know your child can handle an adult movie and sit through it w/o much fuss. fine. otherwise, wait for the DVD
It is not the best movie for a 4 year old but it depends on where he is at developmentally. There is little sexual inuendo IMHO, so it's not that bad. When I saw the movie, I took my 7 year old and there were more kids than adults in the theather.
I agree with the other poster that when I was a kid I saw plenty of films that parents and myself included would not watch today and I didn't suffer or engage in bad behavior. It is more concerning to me when parents aren't at the movies to explain things to the kids.
