Some movies I loved as a teenager did not stand the test of time for me.

Breakfast Club (i found myself sympathizing with the principal when i became a mom).

Valley Girl (I can't believe how much I crushed on Nicholas Cage when this came out. As an adult I couldn't see the appeal. Must have been that funny trimmed patch of hair on his chest).

Pretty in Pink (I actually still like the movie, but now I wish it would have ended with Duckie getting the girl).

I was never a big fan of 10 Things I hate About You when it was first released, but I watched it recently and it was better than I remember it. I wasn't real thrilled with the "teenage" actors of that era, though Heath Ledger did great. He wasn't really a teenage actor that would show up in teen films all the time. Right after that he started getting roles in more grown-up movies.

Some other movies deserve a honorable mention:

Mean Girls
Clueless
The DUFF (I saw it with my daughter and thought it was pretty good).
American Pie

  1. The Breakfast Club
  2. American Pie
  3. Back to the Future: It is in 1980's and 1950's high school
  4. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
  5. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Honorable Mention:
The Amazing Spider-Man (hey, there was great high school backdrops to the characters in this movie.)
Can't Hardly Wait (though it is a bit off to have a late 20's go back to high school undercover.)
Grease (it's a period piece mixed with music from the time.
Mean Girls (it's soooo fetch.)
Not Another Teen Movie (it's a spoof of teen high school comedies.)
Sky High (really under-rated teen superhero movie with original characters.)
Teen Wolf (another Michael J. Fox high school movie.)
