I can think of two. Aliens was better than the first Alien Movie AND Terminator II was better than Terminator!
Aliens was a good movie, but not necessarily better. What it was was a great action sci-fi movie, while Alien was a dark and claustrophobic HORROR movie.

Totally agree with both of those statements.
And while I love Godfather II, I don't think it outshines the original. Same with Empire Strikes Back. Great movie, but original is better.
The best sequel of all time has to be Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Spider-Man 2 was world's better than Spider-Man.

The Road Warrior is a fantastic movie. Mad Max was horrible. Just horrible. It wasn't just an exploitation flick; it was a bad exploitation flick.
Although you'd never know it just by watching the films, The Silence of the Lambs is technically a sequel, and far superior to its predecessor in every possible way.
