"New Beer Festival, Hops on the Mon, Comes to Morgantown, WV"

"Craft beer lovers in West Virginia and neighboring states should mark their calendar now for the region’s newest and largest celebration of all things beer. The inaugural Hops on the Mon craft beer and food festival will take place Saturday, September 23 at the Morgantown Event Center in the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place."

"The festival is produced by Top Tier Beer Group and is designed to be the premier craft beer event in West Virginia. Attendees will have the chance to sample more than 150 offerings from 50-plus local, national and international breweries in the comfort of the area’s largest high-end indoor venue. All beers served will be rigorously selected based on product quality and style distinctiveness."

"In addition to beer, Hops on the Mon will also feature a yearly food competition and sampling based on a theme and provided by the area’s best local restaurants. This year’s competition is titled “The Great Grilled Cheese Challenge” with a $1,000 prize to the people’s choice winner."

"Tickets for the event are $60 for VIP with early entry, $45 general admission, and include a souvenir tasting glass. Tickets are on sale now."

"Largest gathering of all things beer ever held in West Virginia"

This is awesome! What a nice opportunity to showcase our area's several local craft breweries as well as regional, national, and foreign offerings. The folks organizing our festivals are getting better and better at it. If this is advertised in Pittsburgh, it should draw well from that area too.

Default No Cider ... Just Beer

The organizers of this event will keep the beverage offerings limited to beer. There will be no hard cider available, although we have a successful local producer of various types of hard cider here in Morgantown. Also, this will not be a bunch of breweries with each shoving out a large number of beers. The 150 chosen will be those considered each brewery's best offerings as approved by the festival's organizers. I love craft beer, and wish I could try all 150. Unfortunately I'll likely have to limit my selections to just a handful.

This is a first rate venue for such a festival too.

Actually, it looks like you might be in luck with your hard cider. Per their Facebook page:

They must have decided to add it then. There is a local producer here in Morgantown who is going great guns with it, and selling several varieties of hard cider. One can't drink too much of that stuff though because you'd better be closer to a restroom if you're going to do it. He advertises at the Black Bears games and has established a significant following.

Personally, I can see some real possibilities for developing this and other similar events. We have somewhere around 5 craft breweries here in Morgantown now. They're opening up yet another this month... I can't keep up with it, and a mega craft brewery and brew pub is planned for the new West View development by I-79. In addition, we have 2 distilleries and 2 wineries around here, so events could be planned around those budding little industries too. We finally have somebody in charge of event planning in city government, and it is starting to pay off. For years, we've been missing the potential.
