I wanted to make a separate, consolidated thread for all the happenings at UTC. We have a thread for the Gateway, and one of the existing ones can be used for the ballpark. How about one just for UTC, sans ballpark, so all these developments don't get lost in the shuffle.

So, to start, I came across another soon-to-be-built development. It'll be a small building with eight retail spaces and office spaces above, and it will be built next to the new Premier car lot (to the left as you're facing Premier).

Looks real nice. I have a hunch that now that another Interstate Exit will be build on that side of the development, things will really take off there. It wouldn't surprise me to see another hotel too.

Default Carabba's Italian Grill?

Is a Carrabba's Italian Grill planned for the Gateway Center? It's difficult to tell from the graphic, but it looks like Carrabba's logo in the image of current/planned development: http://s.lnimg.com/photo/full/a51bbf...c34113d672.jpg

Yup, I noted that in the Gateway thread somewhere. It sucks - I love that place and I'm moving in June.

Everyone is excited about the Carrabbas..I'm not even kidding. Olive Garden is going bye-bye.

OTOH, what the heck could go in that new strip mall? Maybe we need another Sheetz there! Just kidding..seriously, what else could fit into those spaces? Any clue?

I've noticed one thing... It seems that no matter how many restaurants they put in over there they seem to do well. I think it is because a lot of the business comes in off the Interstate. I don't think anybody in that area is going bye-bye.

There are quite a few stores that can fill up any new strip development. One area of need up at UTC is a good place to get lunch fairly quickly that's not McDonald's. I can't tell you how many times I've been up there and wanted a good sandwich; I think a place like Firehouse Subs, Penn Station, or Jason's Deli would do well there. In fact, if I had to bet, I would put money down on Firehouse Subs as they're slowly penetrating the market.

Another jeweler might get good business, and so would some smaller clothing retailers. I would kill for an H&M, even though I wouldn't be here anymore. Also, I wonder if a bank might set up shop somewhere around there.

Kind of surprised we haven't seen a Macy's or a Kohl's express interest up there. The space next to Ashley Furniture looks prime for a department store of that size.

Those kinds of stores are basically on life support wherever they're located these days. They're on their way out... can't compete with Walmart, Home Depot and the like. You're not going to see a lot of new ones built.

That's not true - Kohl's was rumored to be moving into University Town Center next to Premier Chevrolet. Haven't heard any updates in a while so I'm not sure what happened to that.
Town Centre may add Kohl’s, salon
