The Mitsubishi Mirage had a facelift and it’s a big improvement over the previous front end styling. It also offers a slightly larger rim/tire size up to 175/55R15 from standard 14” tires. The top trim styling front end reminds me of early GTI front end styling. 70something HP isn’t much but the car barely weighs a ton. It has potential to be a fun little car to toss around in manual transmission form and the right type of tires. Not saying it’s on the level of early hot hatches of the late 70s to mid 80s. It is one of the cheapest and lightest cars you can buy new today and still offers a manual transmission.

My mother's car has averaged 3,300 miles for the last 11 years, almost entirely on local roads with 35 mph and 40 mph speed limits. It's nice to know that someone is still making a cheap car like this (MSRP: From $14,645) because not everyone wants to mess around with buying a used car.

They used to do these commercials about cute young kids without much money and all they could afford was a little subcompact sedan. In this commercial a young girl gets her heart broken and the Mirage is her only friend.
You never see these commercials anymore. I see Mitsubushi commercial about the Criss Cross and Outlander all the time. I guess sales are so small they don't bother.
At one time Mitsubishi made some nice looking cars. I don't know what happened but their styling is terrible now.
According to Automotive News, Mitsubishi Motors CEO Takao Kato said that the company will be pulling back from large global markets such as Europe and China to focus on Southeast Asia and elsewhere. And while it didn't mention the U.S. by name, it later specified to the outlet that America is one of such large markets. Jun 24, 2020
Mitsubushi sales in the US have always been mediocre. By comparison Subaru deliberately chose to concentrate on the US market.

If she has a place to charge, she'd be a prime candidate for one of the cheaper urban commuter EVs that are available in Europe or China, but unfortunately those generally aren't coming here anytime soon.
Of the top 10 vehicle registrtions in California in 2020 I think the Civic and Corolla will be the hardest to replace with EVs.
59,335 Honda Civic
57,449 Toyota RAV4
56,301 Toyota Camry
50,751 Ford F-Series
44,141 Chevrolet Silverado
43,467 Toyota Corolla
42,653 Honda Accord
39,752 Toyota Tacoma
38,636 Ram Pickup
38,580 Tesla Model 3
California mix of vehicles does differ from the rest of the nation. Over one third of vehicles are cars, vs less than one fourth for the Rest of the United States.
California vs Rest of Nation
36% > 23% cars
64% < 77% light trucks

That 61.6 cu. ft. of cargo space with the back seats down does come in handy. Of the present day hatchbacks only the Kia Soul has more space.
Hatchbacks with over 50 cu. ft of cargo space
Porsche Panamera - 14.3 to 18.3 cu. ft./ 44.0 to 52.6 cu. ft.
Honda Fit - 16.6 cu. ft./52.7 cu. ft.
Volkswagen Golf/Golf GTI - 22.8 cu. ft./52.7 to 53.7 cu. ft.
Kia Niro - 18.5 to 19.4 cu. ft./53.0 to 54.5 cu. ft.
Volkswagen Arteon - 27.2 cu. ft./ 55.0 cu. ft.
Hyundai Elantra GT - 24.9 cu. ft./ 55.1 cu. ft.
Subaru Impreza - 20.8 cu. ft./55.3 cu. ft.
Chevrolet Bolt EV - 16.9 cu. ft./56.6 cu. ft.
Tesla Model S - 5.3 cu. ft. (frunk)/ 30.0 cu. ft./60.2 cu. ft.

The Eclipse was very popular back in the 1990s. They also made a lot of engines for Chrysler back then.
Their reliability just wasn't on par with other Japanese brands though.
With gas prices up I wonder if Mitsubishi is selling plenty of Mirage with CVT rated at 36 city and 43 highway?
