I am looking for any information about living in Rochester. I would like to know if there are any places that rent weekly or monthly. This would be temporary until I find an apartment. Also my credit is not that good. Would this make it difficult to secure a lease? Another important issue would be finding a job. I only have hotel experience, do you think I would have a hard time finding work? Lastly I would be a patient at the Mayo clinic, living and working nearby or in the downtown area would be convenient but I'm sure more expensive than out of the downtown area. Any information would be very helpful.

I grew up an hour away from Rochester. It's a great town. I would love to live there myself. It is expensive; the public schools do have money/budget problems; there are some crime issues with gangs, but it's still a great place. It was on a list not too long ago of best places to live in the US.

I would think there are places there that rent weekly or monthly. I don't personally know, though. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a job with the hotels. There are quite a few of them there. Check out the Rochester Post Bulletin online. They have job listings and rentals in there.

One of the good things about being downtown around the Mayo Clinic is that there are tunnels under most of the downtown that go from building to building, so in the winter time, you can avoid going outside in the cold. The Mayo Clinic is really good. My parents took me there a couple of times as a child; my oldest son was born at Methodist Hospital and my OB doctor was at Mayo; and I took my son there for some testing when he was little. They are very thorough.
