Can I get registration sticker for my boat trailer if it is expired before the lifetime reg? have it for my boat, but can't get ahold of the prior owner now.

Isn't there an old plate, registration sticker, or serial number on the trailer now? It had to have something before in order to be on the road. Take whatever sticker or plate numbers you have to the DMV.

I had a similar, kind of problem but with a small sailboat. My husband bought it used from someone moving out of the country. He lost the title. Somehow got the boat tags but title never changed to him. It was a mess that came up when we wanted to sell a few years later and realized title not in our name. We ended up with a sympathetic guy at DNR that went ahead and changed to our name, only because of some bizarre reason the tags were in our name. However ...

Before the nice guy at DNR helped us our option was to go to court, pay some it totally inexpensive court fees, and ask/petition the judge to have boat in husband's name. It was a fairly inexpensive boat. No motor/about 17 foot sail boat that we wanted to sell for $1,200, boat and trailer. If I remember correctly it may have been around $300-500 for court fees, but I'm not sure, it was about 15 years ago.

Another option I've heard with trailer, which seems to be a not uncommon thing to lose paperwork/title is to apply for license and say it is a handmade trailer and get new paperwork for title. Not sure if you can still get away with that.
