It is possible that my husband and I will be relocating to St. Cloud. We are looking for a neighborhood with a couple specifics: 1. Newer homes (<10 yrs old) 2. A popular, active weekday "daytime" neighborhood (e.g., stay-at-home moms/dads with preschool or elementary aged children, playgroups, etc.)
We are open to areas outside St. Cloud proper (e.g., Sartell, Sauk Rapids). Our background is both big city and small city; however, we prefer the atmosphere of a smaller city for our growing family. Please be as specific as possible when sharing information(neighborhood names, street names, etc.). Also if you have anything to say about schools (both public and private) we are all ears!! Thank you.

I don't know specifically about exact neighborhoods but Sartell generally has the best schools in the St. Cloud area and is very family friendly. St. Joseph is another small town that has had a lot of new development lately, but it is also a college town so that has it's pros and cons too.

We used to live in Sartell and chose that community because of the schools. We lived in "The Wilds" and there are many stay-at-home moms and a fairly active neighborhood association. It is a very friendly neighborhood with a nice park, small pool/wading pool, tennis courts and walking trails. We moved away nearly 4 years ago and I still keep in contact with many of my neighbors. We still get our kids together when possible. The general price range for "The Wilds" is $300,000 to $500,000. Some street names include Grizzly Lane, Cougar Lane, and 8th Street. Falcon Court and Cougar Court both have cul-de-sacs. I have a friend who has a lovely home on Grizzly Lane for sale if you're interested.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the info about St. Cloud. TheLastMove: thanks for the specifics about great neighborhoods. "The Wilds" sounds like a place we would be interested in checking out.

You're welcome. There is one builder in particular I would steer clear of in that neighborhood. You can send me a PM if you want more detailed info.

We were just there a few months ago and almost moved there. I loved the Sartell area....it is known in the area as the more expensive part of town but also the newest and the area with the best schools. I thought it was easy to find a 3-4BR house for 200-250,000 but I dont know what you're price range is - I live in Seattle so that is dirt cheap to me :-). There are areas of Sartell that have "cookie cutter" houses with no trees....and there are areas with houses in park-like settings near schools. I thought that area had a lot to offer and if I were ever to move to the midwest again, I'd suggest Sartell.

I was told that Sauk Rapids also has good schools....we didnt really check it out because we liked Sartell best. (We also have small children). For reference, Sartell is a suburb NW of St Cloud and Sauk Rapids is NE of St Cloud. I wouldn't get too far SE because there is a correctional facility there.

Overall a nice town and only a little over an hour to Minneapolis so lots of opportunities for things to do that are "small-town" and "big-city."
