As for the wrong place, remember the film? The two kidnappers are driving into the Cities from the north (the Brainerd area), and one of them comments on the IDS Center and how it's one of the tallest buildings in the Midwest. But the perspective of the IDS through the windshield was clearly shot on 35W, south (not north) of downtown, just before it jogs east and parallels 94.

The shot just worked better that way and it's fiction, not a documentary.
I'm quite aware of how establishing shots work. I was pointing out the bridge stayed IN THE SHOT during part of the scene in such a way that it was clearly CGI'd in. I wasn't actually complaining, but more pointing out a random bit of trivia.

The original movie flaunted major inconsistencies that seemed to be the Coen Brothers dropping little Easter eggs into the movie for Minnesotans to pick up on. Driving the wrong way from Brainerd into Minneapolis. The prostitute who grew up in Le Seuer but went to White Bear Lake High School ("Go Bears"). The Lundegaards living in Minneapolis, but the windows looking out into a vast subdivision that more closely resembles Apple Valley than anywhere in Minneapolis. There's a lot of little things that are actually quite fun to find.

None of the exterior shots are actually Bemidji. Even the watertower picture is faked.

Anyone that's been to Bemidji knows it. They don't even attempt to disguise the fact that it's not actually Bemidji but it hardly matters. It's only a fictitious story to begin with set in Bemidji pretty much in name only.

Well written and well acted, it's all that matters. Only 8 episodes left...
