My wife recently got a job in Virginia MN, by the time I return from Iraq, she will already be there. I have been scouring the internet looking for jobs in that area, but have little or no luck so far. Although my return from Iraq is still almost six months away, I know I have lots of time, but would still like to cover all of my bases so I know what to expect when returning home to a new town. I will also be attending Hibbing Community College. So any assistance that any kind soul will provide me will be greatly appreciated!

Andy

Virginia is up in the "Iron Belt" of northeastern Minnesota. Unless you're into mining or the tourist industry, jobs are really hard to find up there. It's a beautiful area. The towns are a bit rundown and struggling, in my opinion, but the country is some of the most gorgeous I've ever seen.

Good luck!

Mark S. is correct...not a whole lot of economic opportunity around there outside of mining (hit and miss indsustry with "boom" and "bust" cycles) and tourism/service (typical low wage stuff.) It is in beautiful country though, and you're only about an hour from Duluth, which is the "big" city in the area (about 100,000 people).

One resource you might want to check out is AEOA.org (Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency). It's a human services program that assists people in NE Minnesota with jobs, housing, training, etc. It's designed more for low-income people, but they might be able to point you in the right direction as to where to look for jobs.

You could also try mnworks.org, it's the job bank website maintained by the MN workforce center (mnwfc.org.)
This page: www.deed.state.mn.us/veterans/index.htm
is specific to employment benefits and services offered to veterans in MN.

Hope that helps and good luck!
