I've seen in some other posts that St Paul has some areas that are "getting worse." Approximately where are these areas located? More specifically....what is it like coming in from the south on Robert St. through West St. Paul....or coming in on 149 from Mendota Heights? Thanks!!

Going into downtown St. Paul from Robert St is fine. As you approach Cesar Chavez St you'll notice the tone changes from West St. Paul white suburbia to Hispanic businesses and older (sometimes less kept) housing stock. A few blocks later you're onto the bridge and into downtown. You have absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to safety if you're taking that route in your car.

I actually looked into buying on the Westside of St. Paul but eventually decided against it because I didn't find the location to be convenient enough for my work and school commutes.

On the contrary, most areas of St. Paul are getting better.

St Paul rocks! We live in the Como area and love it. We have a three year old so safety is very important to us. Highland Park, Lowertown and Como are my favorite areas. I try to stay away from the Frogtown neighborhood, Capitol area, Eastside near Payne Av. North Minneapolis is much worse then any St Paul area I can think of.
