I recently moved to Minneapolis from Chicago for a new job, and I really like the city. I haven't had a chance to explore much of the area outside of downtown yet unfortunately because I work a lot, but overall I am happy.

I currently live downtown, near Loring Park, to be close to work. This has been good because of how much I have to work, and it's helpful to be in the office a lot since I don't know anyone who lives in the twin cities. It's also pretty nice to have the park and be close to the art museums/sculpture walk. But I know that longterm I want to live somewhere else - everything by me closes super early, it can even be difficult to get groceries (basically just Lunds is the only store, even Target closes at 6 PM....). I can't just walk outside my door and go to a Walgreens or a restaurant, basically I do my shopping and dining when I'm at work via the skyway. Also there are no gyms downtown which is nuts to me - just Lifetime (which is prohibitively expensive) and the YMCA and YWCA, both of which have extremely limited hours (the YMCA isn't even open during the weekend...). Where do people downtown work out?

Where do young professionals who have to work a lot live? Is there an area of the metro area where stuff is open late or 24/7? I hear North Loop is popular, but also seems geared towards people in their early 20s who want to party....St. Anthony Falls seems pretty cool, but I don't see any gyms in the area (where do people workout in Minneapolis?) Where do people who want to date live in the twin cities? Once again I hear the North Loop a lot. People seem generally scared to meetup downtown (by the way, downtown is very safe. There is some crime, but violent crime is down by 70% from the previous year.)

My son lives and works in the North Loop, near the Whole Foods. He is in his mid 20's, but is pretty serious about his career, and is not there "just to party". Many in his building are in their 30's, and I've noticed a fair amount of retirees around, oddly enough. Like any downtown, you need to be aware of your surroundings, but I wouldn't call it dangerous.

He has a gym in his building, but there are a couple nearby...I've forgotten the names.

Uptown is another area that single people live in. It's a bit more relaxed, I guess.

A friend of mine owns this company for rentals. My wife heard on the news people are breaking leases in nicer places in Uptown because of the crime.

Honestly, same thing is happening in Loring Park. I left Loring Park in March partially because the building that we lived in, which was really nice before Covid... has gone to hell in a handbasket. Rampant drugs, sketchy people. My husband was assaulted by a tenant last summer and pressed charges on her. We got both our bikes stolen. Its a damn shame.

Minneapolis has never been much a 24/7 or late night city, at least not compared to many other cities, especially Chicago. Covid made it even worse in that regard.

Personally, I really love St. Paul. I think anywhere along Seventh Street from about Randolph to downtown is great. I lived in West 7th and loved it. Its not an area that specially CATERS to young professionals like say, Loring Park, Uptown or Northeast, but its not a place thats isolating either. Tons of grocery stores, restaurants, bars, events etc. I do miss living out there.
