I can see that also......

That is exactly what residents of the city of Detroit told Detroit suburbanites for many years.

seeing the Police or the Ramones live at Jays Longhorn downtown.

Or the regular Lamont Cranston live at the caboose.

Good old days

Yeah, great stadium. Boring surrounding area. Finally found my way to a bar post-game that seemed lively (Crooked Pint) only to have to deal with security throwing out an inebriated psychotic clearly on drugs in the entry way. Sure, can happen in any major city though.

The city has gotten a bit less populated since 1970, but not by much.

But the culture of the city has changed a lot between 1970 and now. It isnt the city I remember growing up.

This article really nails it in my opinion.

More than 650 people were shot in the city last year; 95 died—just short of the city’s record. There were more than 2,000 robberies. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, carjackings in the city rose 537% from November 2019 to November 2020, and then rose another 40% in the 10 months after that. What happened?

I also was living in Minneapolis for decades during those years, decades ago. In recent years, Minneapolis has become a lost cause. The emphasis on defunding the police and other leftist causes have destroyed Minneapolis. I doubt if many people go to the downtown areas at night now, because of the high crime rates. The police backed off enforcement because the police don't want to be accused of something, or make a mistake, and go to prison. When the police back off enforcement, then the criminals have free reign, and crime dramatically increases. That's what happened. It's not complicated.

After the rioting, looting, and burning in Minneapolis occurred, you'd think that the Minneapolis major couldn't ever be re-elected, but the people that live in Minneapolis actually re-elected the weak kneed leftist mayor.

I think that the future for Minneapolis is dim. Crime will increase more. I don't think Minneapolis will ever improve. Minneapolis has simply become a lost cause. At some point, you have to vote with your feet and leave.

That's good news for the people that are fleeing the crime infested Minneapolis! It sounds like dramatically increasing crime rates, and lack of law and order, is not an important consideration for some people.

Ohh nooes. Crime rates! Lack of law and order!

Minneapolis is fine. I live here. The worst crime I've ever experienced is theft of a bike (which I stupidly left unsecured in my building's supposedly "secured" garage).

That's interesting that you blame yourself for being a crime victim, instead of blaming the criminal. Maybe you should have installed a "Tile" locator on the bicycle, concealed if possible. Then you could track down the bicycle location using the "Tile" crowd of users. Perhaps you should install a "Tile" locator on your replacement bicycle, if you decide to replace the bicycle.

Maybe you'll be lucky, and you won't be injured or killed by future encounters with the criminals in the Twin Cities. But if your luck runs out, you'll really regret living there, but it will be too late to prevent injury or death.

The reality to all of this is when you live here, you do not notice small changes, especially when you keep seeing them daily, weekly, monthly. It’s the people who move away for a longer period of mine and return. They are ones that can spot the differences right away, for better or for worse. Crime in Mpls being where now this is the new normal, yet when I talk to people who live in tiny town MN and explain some of it, they see the difference right away. An outsiders perspective can be a great thing…
