People with TCF bank how has the merger with Huntington been going for you. Have you had any difficulty with account access and debit card use. I'm just curious cause I saw a news clip on YouTube about TCF debit cards not working last weekend and customer service being unavailable. Has this really been the case?

i got caught off guard when my TCF ATM card would not work on the Friday of the merger. As luck would have it I did have other accounts to fall back on, others weren't so lucky. The issue was resolved by the next day.

No issues in using Huntington's internet banking app. It's early and I have not yet decided if I'll remain a customer or not.

I hate mergers.

I haven't used my TCF debit card much in recent time, so can't say.

Been with TCF since I was like 15 - always had them. Like I said, I hate mergers. The big are getting too big, and I don't like it.

I was not happy with the merger. I've had a TCF account for decades, however, it is not my primary bank. The ability to find a cash machine was the main attraction for me so I always kept the account funded. It appears, on a superficial level, that there are fewer cash machines connected to TCF available now. I will also need to check my routing numbers on my account. I think they will probably have changed for at least the first set (they indicate the bank).

On Saturday, I was on campus at the U and drove by the stadium. A bit jarring to see Huntington Bank Stadium with the lime green background.

The merger, at least from a consumer perspective, does not seem to enhance performance of the bank. The decreased cost associated with removing job duplication will probably not be passed onto customers and only "might" make a difference to stock holders. Oh well.

It's happening too with credit unions. Just in Minnesota alone, Wings Financial has merged with numerous credit unions and banks over the year and been focusing on expanding beyond the Twin Cities through Minnesota.

TruStone Financial and Firefly just recently merged (Both were already among the top 5 largest credit unions in the state already) and after the merger surpassed Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union as the second largest in Minnesota.

Spire Credit Union has merged with numerous credit unions over the past several years.

Royal Credit Union (based out of Wisconsin) has branches in both Wisconsin and Minnesota and has already merged with numerous others just this year alone and is busy expanding their presence in both Wisconsin & Minnesota.

And also Alaska USA Credit Union, well before the Huntington merger, acquired & rebranded TCF's Arizona branches in early 2020. What started as a credit union in just Alaska is now in several states including Washington, California and Arizona. Big credit unions that span many, many states like Alaska USA are becoming more & more common.

In terms of big banks, I quite like Chase. One of the best mobile apps and online banking by far, and customer service has been phenomenal for me. Some of the best credit cards with best rewards & bonuses by far. Very happy to see their opening branches and expanding throughout Minnesota, Iowa and North & South Dakota. They also usually have bonuses for opening a checking account with them (I think it's a $225 bonus right now if you open a checking account with them and switch your direct deposit over) But before I get flamed for saying that, yes I'm well aware that they're a big bad, evil bank owned by big, bad evil nasty shareholders that only care about making money.

I'm actually extremely conservative - but I can and have, for a long long time, viewed the Walmartization of America as horrific, and I do.

Maybe 200 years from now when there's one or two banks left, whatever people are left in this nation will be given a better deal, but I doubt it.
