It’s cold! I plow snow and yesterday was odd working outside. Beginning of day it was 30 or so and decent. Then cold came in and once it got dark it sucked being outside and wind blowing snow all around. How cold something is all about what someone is used to. We haven’t had this cold all year.

It's cold, no doubt. It is the wind that really gets to me.

Your first winter or two here will be a transition for you, even if they are mild winters by our standard they will not be by your standard (moving up from Atlanta, right?).

When it hits zero, the dedicated people are still out walking, running, biking, xc skiing. But they dress for it, including face protection. Unless it is windy. At single digits and below, a mild wind can really drop the temp and make it miserable. You will understand what "wind chill" really means when that happens. When it is single digits and colder and windy, even the most dedicated people reconsider staying inside unless necessary.

When it hits single digits and colder, we typically have clear, blue skies with lots of sun during the daytime hours. That is a nice tradeoff from warmer temps (20s and 30s), when there is more moisture in the air, which can create overcast days and also be a more penetrating cold (to me, anyway). We actually get a fair amount of sunshine in the winter here - consider finding a place with big, southern exposure when you are looking for a place to live (double-pane or better windows). If you are offered a choice of offices at St. Kate's, keep that in mind as well.

-20F?

Oh, that's a wee bit nippy.

Might want to wear a hat.

Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) can answer that for you. (from the film "New In Town")

Seriously, though, just dress for the weather, and you'll be fine.

I'm jealous of you guys. We don't even have anything below +20 in the forecast, even at night.

(I like subzero temps.)
