Question in title. If I wanted to test drive a vehicle are car dealers open? Can't seem to find much information about whether dealers are offering test drives.

I think they are but wouldn’t it be easier and the information more reliable if you just picked up the phone and asked them?

I was at the dealership I use today. It’s been open all along for COVID, other then very beginning. I’ve seen people walk in without appointments. The website mentions having an appointment, which they prefer to do. A loaner came in I wanted to drive, but service friend said it needs to be sanitized etc before being available.

My dads a mechanic at a Chevy dealer in rural Minnesota, they've been open the whole time. Not sure though how they're handling test drives.

There is a salesmen from a Chevy dealer I watch on Youtube who vlogs while hes at work at a Chevy Dealer in New Jersey and they let people test drive on their own now because of salesmen and don't have a sales person ride with. You'll need to ask the specific dealership you're planning on visiting as to what they're doing.

That - test drives alone - is one thing I would like to see become the standard again once this is over. Car shopping was a more pleasant experience once upon a time.

From one particular dealer I buy at/service at, sales friend tosses me keys to go drive any used car parked outside. It’s a higher end place, so I’ve driven many $100k+ cars for as long as I wanted. I don’t take them long, feels weird when it’s not yours. He did come with when I took $210k Taycan Turbo S. The 2018 Rolls Royce convertible was sold before I got to drive it, most comfortable seat I’ve ever sat in. It’s about who you know in all these particular situations.

The sales guy rides in the back seat and you both wear masks was my experience.
