Hi,

I've been to your great city twice during the summer, but never during the winter. We're thinking of taking a trip in the middle of December, (husband will already be there for work), but it seems that restaurants are closed and possibly other types of places. Any recommendations for a couple in their 50s that just want to experience a few days of exploring? Any great areas with unique shopping? Any great public places to see?

Thanks!

If your husband is already here for work then I would hope you are aware of the fact that the state of MN is under mandated restrictions until Dec 18th.

Here are a couple of articles detailing specifics:

Quote:
What about social gatherings?
Social gatherings of almost any kind are now prohibited, having been identified as one of the main sources of COVID-19 transmission in the current outbreak.

That applies to gathering with anyone outside your immediate household, indoors or outdoors, planned or spontaneous.

Exceptions include:

Workers and customers at a business, as long as they’re following relevant safety requirements
Education settings and care services for children
Care visits to family, friends or pets from another household
Health and safety activities, like seeking care or giving blood
Sobriety and mental health support groups
Health care and residential facilities — though visits to long-term care may not be permitted under individual facilities’ regulations
People experiencing homelessness
People moving, either to a new home or out of a dangerous situation
Governmental meetings
Court proceedings — but the Judicial Council voted unanimously to put the freeze on in-person jury trials, with some exceptions, that will take effect on Nov. 30
Weddings, funerals and religious services — but restrictions must also be followed, and gatherings after services are prohibited
Outdoor activities —but any activities that put people in close contact with other households are prohibited
Drive-in gatherings
Tribal activities and lands

Out of state travel is highly discouraged. Incoming visitors and residents that travel out-of-state are asked to quarantine for 14 days upon entry (or reentry) to Minnesota.

Actually, get out and go hiking, that is where all the good things are anyway, and more exciting than going into stores.

I wouldn’t visit a city where the restaurants are closed. Take out in a hotel room is going to get old really quick. Do you really want to eat in your car or room three times a day?

Not sure why you’re quoting me, telling me to get out and go hiking?? Rather than quoting me in an attempt to disparage my contribution to the discussion, why don’t you offer up specific suggestions. The OP is looking for “unique shopping” and “public places” to see. If you think she should go hiking then share your recommendations.

IT was for the op, that going out and hiking is the option also, you just listed a bunch of stuff, just meaning that there are so many other options, not directed toward you, sorry. I think hiking is the best, they were wondering of what things to do. So I suggested hiking, that is all.

Just want to experience a few days of exploring. Hiking, nothing better.

Any great public places to see? Tons of places, all open, and it involves hiking.
