Hi! I'm lurking from the Seattle forum... my sister and her family live in the Twin Cities. I need a gift idea and I don't know about MN, but we are under new restrictions of no dine-in and it's killing our restaurants... maybe you guys are the same???

In any case, my sister is definitely on the cautious side with the virus and I thought of gifting her restaurant food (delivery) AND supporting your local restaurant industry.

But I need ideas!

They like Indian.. actually they like a lot of ethnic foods.

I don't mind paying a good price either. Not fine dining, but excellent quality and novel. Sister is a foodie.

Would you be using DoorDash, BiteSquad, etc...and need help finding a restaurant on it? What city they live in makes a difference on what can be delivered to them.

Yes, knowing their location is necessary.

Also, would they be open to curbside takeout? I can think of four really great places near me that I would recommend but they offer take out not delivery. My own experience is that delivered food can sit in the car for quite a while and, as a result, the quality often suffers. It’s ok for fast food or pizza but not for quality items.

I've done that in the past with another relative, but I get better results generally when someone can give a recommendation from personal experience.

Do you have personal experience with Raag or... did you just google it?

Is your sister open to takeout? Restaurants here generally offer curbside service.

I am so busted.

Yes, I did a Google search on "Indian restaurants 50th and France". I have not eaten at Raag before, but they do deliver and appear to have high ratings. When I went to their website, they were advertising a Thanksgiving Special via delivery. All restaurants in Minnesota are closed now for in situ dining, but as mentioned by Glenfield will do curbside pickup and some will do delivery via the various delivery companies.

The Indian restaurants that I frequent are quite a ways from 50th and France. Some deliver and some only do curbside pickup. There are other restaurants that I love and visit often: a Kurdish one downtown St. Paul (first one to open in the USA), Vietnamese, Thai, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and the various Chinese.

Looking at the Google map around 50th and France, one can see Coconut Thai Edina, Hana Bistro, Cocina Del Bario, Coalition Restaurant, and Red Cow. Any one of those are likely decent food and their websites would have info on whether they deliver and which delivery service they work with.

I recommend ALL Indian restaurants in the Twin Cities (have eaten at 5 or 6 of them), but then maybe I am not that discerning in the quality. I regularly prepare Indian food myself, the easy stuff (e.g., dosas and naan), and that has given me a low bar for comparisons.

Now we'll see if flyingsaucermom bites. Pun intended.
