I'm curious about just how much of a direct influence or place of recreation the many, many lakes in the area are. Is it common to have it play a large in your recreation? It seems like you can't make a straight line longer than ten miles without hitting some body of water.

Depends on peoples' interest. (swimming, boating, fishing, painting, camping...)
That's what people do for relaxation.

When the weather's amenable I spend time by the water probably three, four times a week. We boat, swim and float.

I lived in Nebraska for five years and thought I'd sigh myself away for lack of lakes.
