I know textbooks say the American male avg. is near 5'10", and women near 5'5"; however, is that adequate? I am 5'8" and I am a male, am I short or avg.? I believe numbers and actual views made by our eyes change that term of average.

For a Minnesotan you're shorter than average.

Default Does size really matter?

Remember, we're a bunch of Scandinavians. I'm 6'8", and average height for my family (oh yes... AVERAGE).

Default Wow!

wow that's insane, I'm just doing a survey for class to see which states are above the national average , near it, or below. Seems like Minnesota's above. I'm glad I don't live there , all 5'8" of me!!! Short New York suits me better, but I have heard Minnesota is like upstate NY, just taller

We don't have funny accents. We talk pretty normal. Although if there is anyone who speaks English without an accent, it is the English because they invented the language, therefore speak it correctly. 5'8 is a couple inches shorter than average.

Ummmmmmm, yea you do have an accent.
We've lived here long enough that I don't notice it as much anymore.

Not sure how to describe it... but, when Minnesotans talk at the end of their sentence, the last syllable goes up.... kind of sing songy.

I thought it was so cute when we first moved here, now, I don't really hear it a lot... probably because I do it too... LOL

everyone I've spoken to from outside of Minnesota has commented on my accent, it definitely exists. We annunciate the "o" sound in words.

People down here in Atlanta usually guess I'm from somewhere in the midwest (MN, WI, IA, NE). My wife constantly gets told that she's from Canada, though, which isn't true (Esko MN isn't *quite* that far north <g>).

I have to agree, I thought that sing-songy thing was a hoot when we first moved here!
