It used to be on the NE corner of 26th and Lyndale (2549 Lyndale Ave S) during the 1970's through the 1990's. Great vegetarian food and a delightfully funky, warm, woody ambiance.

Anyway, I'm looking for a recipe for their delicious Tahini Salad Dressing. Does anyone know how to make it or just want to share your memories of the Mud Pie, or other features of Uptown/Wedge/Whittier back in the day? A stroll down memory lane with food and beverage...

OMG I LOVED Mud Pie! I was so, so sad when it closed. Alas, I'm no help with the recipe, but I do remember that two of the things I loved to order there were the Mexican plate and the Middle Eastern plate. Yum.

Default Mudpie

My aunt was married to Robbie Stair who owned and operated the Mud Pie. I visited there in my teens. Being a meat eater... I was impressed by the great food.

Oh! Yes, I do. I'd forgotten all about it. A Google search doesn't produce much by way of recipes.

A local restaurant must have copied their dessert because I remember at about the same time period if you were in the know you could order a mud pie dessert which wasn't on the menu.

I don't know how the original mud pie was constructed but here's my copy cat attempt.

"Enough" crushed Oreo brand cookies mixed with melted butter pressed into buttered pan.
Top with softened coffee ice cream and hot fudge sauce.
Add another layer of ice cream.
Top with some of the cookie crumbs.
Service with a whipped cream and maraschino "cap."

Much to my regret I never had their tahini salad dressing.

Tahini Sauce recipe
6 Tbsp tahini paste
1/3 c lemon juice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chopped garlic
Enough water to get consistency you want

This is a start - I am sure they threw some herbs in as well. I use this sauce for gyros instead of the cucumber sauce.

There was a Mud Pie in Roseville, too. Along the Hwy. 36 frontage road near Rosedale Mall.

I worked in the kitchen there a long time ago and was on the team when it closed its door. It was a fun place to work and the crew that worked there really liked being there. Sadly, I don’t recall much of the menu because I was still mostly just doing prep, and not much cooking yet, when it closed.

I worked there in the 90s waiting tables. Loved all the food. I prepped veggies a few times but never made the dressing.

The Mudpie frozen Veggie Burgers (available in Rainbow Foods at the time) were my staple food through grad school! And the restaurant was really eclectic and ahead of its time IMO (1980s)...even took my parents there at one point.
