Sorry for the confusion, we rent an apartment in Minnetonka. We don't rent a house, nor I have looked at what rental houses are like anywhere (other than south Minneapolis, and even then, what we could get wasn't worth it). But I agree with everyone else, better to rent first then buy where you know you want to be. That's what we are doing right now. You could rent a two bedroom apartment also if you can't find a reasonable house, and then just move once you have a lay of the land.

Just look on Zillow.com you can get a nice house anywhere in the metro for $200.

You'll get the most bang for your buck IMHO in the northwest suburbs. Your ideal location sounds just like maple grove but hard to get something decent in a single family for 200k. I would look at rogers Andover otsego champlin elk river. Rent is going to cost on average 1400-1700 for a 3-4 br home right now. Good look. I've been here 13 years-moved from socal and love it

ugh...don't look on zillow they are the worst for outdated in inaccurate information!!!They keep sold listings on for such a long time!!! It tics off the consumer and the agents...
