Hey all! I'll be spending my 31st birthday in the twin cities later this month, and am looking for the perfect bar. Ideally it'll have character, good dancing (soul, reggae, r&b, jazz, basically anything fun to dance to as a group), and quieter alcoves for chatting and catching up with friends. Double points for kitschy activities. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Toby Keith's, but it's country and a band plays every night.

Nye's. Old Old Old school polka and piano bar. Kitchy as it gets, but authentic.

Shout House. Although most of it is loud as hell.

Shout House is a lot of fun and very high-energy, but yeah, it is also usually loud. Plus I don't see people dance that much there.

The Saloon and Uncle Buck's are also competitors. The Saloon is a gay bar with a large dance floor and the music is fun and the place has different rooms/bars for every mood. Uncle Buck's is smaller but plays good music and has a surprisingly age-diverse crowd.

Cowboy Jacks in Bloomington is also pretty fun. They have a mechanical bull for if you're feeling a little adventurous after one too many drinks. It can get pretty busy though on weekends, I was surprised to see they have a valet service.
