Having mostly settled in here in Anoka, I'm looking for ways to get out and be active and maybe meet a few locals. Does anyone know of any running or biking groups in the area, or have suggestions on where to look to find one? I've been keeping an eye out for a dedicated running store, but haven't noticed one.

I've also noticed that I've only seen another runner out about twice in the last month, so maybe this is wishful thinking.

The running group could be fairly serious runners, while the bikers might need to be more casual for me to keep up. Don't want to show up and bet the only one without a carbon fiber frame.

There's a running store (Right Fit Running) in Mounds View on County 10 (Coon Rapids Blvd). It's roughly at the intersection with Long Lake Road. There's also a more chainy-type place in Maple Grove (I think it's Running Room). Neither is particularly close to Anoka however.

There is a running group at the Lifetime Fitness in Coon Rapids (Hanson and U.S. 10 roughly). I'd guess you'd have to be a member to join, but maybe not. Right Fit Running has also tried to have a running group, but I think they might have had troubles getting enough people.

There is also some kind of north suburban running club (I think it's called North Suburban Striders). They put on the Anoka Gray Ghost 5k at Halloween and probably some other races.

There are a lot of nice trails in the area. You could go to Bunker Hills Regional Park, the Coon Rapids Dam (west half has some really nice dirt trails), Coon Creek trail, Sand Creek trail, Elm Creek Park (it's huge), the Rush Creek trail (goes between Elm Creek and the Coon Rapids Dam).

LTF in Coon Rapids has a run club and I believe a tri club? I think there's a bike club too! It might be worth it to join LTF to participate in these activities (I think the various clubs are free when you join LTF). They meet at the club to run or at the Dam. I joined a LTF run club (Fridley) when I first moved to MN and made a great group of friends this way! There are also "all club" runs where your LTF run club will go to another club to run with a new group. It's really a fun way to make new friends in your area.

Thanks all, that gives me some ideas on where to start. I was going to sign up for another healthclub that is much cheaper and closer to home, so maybe I'll find something on the walls there as well.
