Drive back into the neighborhood south of the U Golf Course - there are all these neat modernistic houses from the 1950's and 60's. I don't know if they're really pricey, but they sure have character.

If your better area is a recent development where all the houses were punched out of the same floor plan and all the neighbors mow their lawns simultaneously, you probably won't like old neighborhoods, where houses are 100 years old and their floors tilt at \ odd / angles.

If your idea of a better area is finding something to do within 5 miles of your house (besides shop at a strip mall), you'd be best advised to move closer to town.
I change my mind every day on my definition of good, bad, better, and worse. Somedays my rural upbringing kicks in and I want a spacious, quiet rambler with a yard big enough to play football in and I don't care if the house is all that unique. Other days my current living in a college town kicks in and I want easy access to concerts and non-chain restaurants and I can't imagine living somewhere that I'd have to drive (as opposed to bus or bike).

We'll just see what side the die lands on the last day.
